The reason that I chose to study Japanese was so that I could speak with my family in Okinawa. I was born in the US and have only spoken English throughout my life. However, I would love to learn Japanese as it is a part of my heritage and I could more easily be able to communicate with my family on my mother's side. I am excited to now be able to construct basic sentences in Japanese. I FaceTime my mom everyday and try to hold a conversation with as much Japanese as possible. I also try to text in Japanese as much as possible so that I can practice more. I have had a lot of fun learning Japanese and then practicing with my mother. Sometimes it can be frustrating when I want to say something but don't know how...but there is still so much to learn and over time if I continue to practice I will get to a point where that will happen less and less.

Reasonable and noble reasons to study Japanese indeed. And wow, I'm really impressed with your active Japanese practice! There's no doubt that hard work will pay off in the long run. Also, I definitely get that how-do-I-say-what-I-want-to-say frustration, and I wish you the best of luck in eradicating it as much as possible.
